A catalogue of fashions from 1954

Found at a local vintage fair yesterday for £1  (I know!  It’s worth coming to Devon just for the vintage shopping).  I’d love to go back in time to order the patterns, but there are some lovely details to admire and inspire.

This is my favourite.  Isn’t that wrapped neckline beautiful?

Also love the bodice on this dress, below, but not so sure about the giant pockets – although that does seem to be a theme of this issue.  I love the prim expression of the lady on the left as she gazes into her tiny handbag.  She knows her picnic is tucked safely away in those pockets!

I also liked this idea of grouping buttons in threes.

I can’t find out much about Leach-Way patterns, except they are a British company.  Have you ever come across them?

  1. Lovely dresses, and particularly snooty expressions on the ladies’ faces. Love it. Can’t imagine people from the 2060s or 70s looking back at our pattern illustrations and photos with such delight!
