Book review – Textured Stitches by Connie Chang Chinchio

This is easily the best knitting book I own.  Apart from a couple of sleeveless tunics and shawls (I’m just not a tunic/ shawl girl), I’d like to make all of the patterns.

I’ve just finished my first knit from the book, the Albero Cowl jacket.  I went up a couple of sizes as my correct size was quite close fitting and I wanted a more ‘jackety’ feel.  I also omitted the loop and button fastening so I could use this beautiful vintage brooch.

I’m also part way through knitting the Caitlin scarf.  The wool is plum double knitting from Coldharbour Mill (about 10 minutes drive from here), edged with a little Manos del Uruguay ruby red silk, left over from another project.

The instructions have been very clear.  Many of the garments are knitted on circular needles, so less sewing up to do (yay!).  Most of the patterns are simple, classic shapes with interesting details.  So they are very wearable.

I’d like to make this hoodie next, possibly adding a zip.

And I love the back of this cardigan.

And these gloves – smocking!
